Create an Acoustic Slat Wall Compatibility Record for Accessories
Build one reusable panel-profile record so product development, purchasing, warehouse and customer-service teams use the same fit dimensions.
Compatibility data should not live in scattered messages
When dimensions are stored only in emails, chat screenshots or one employee’s notes, the same panel may be measured repeatedly and different teams may use different numbers. A compatibility record gives purchasing, product development, warehouse and customer service one controlled reference.
Give each panel profile its own identifier
Create an internal code for every genuinely different slat profile. Record the panel brand and commercial name, but do not rely on the name alone: manufacturers can revise construction while keeping similar marketing language.

Record variation, not only one nominal number
A single measurement can create false confidence. Wood slats, felt and assembly spacing may vary across a panel or production batch. Measure several points and note the smallest usable clearance where insertion is required. The accessory tolerance should be compared with this observed range.
Use photographs that can be audited

- Cross-section or end view
- Caliper on slat width
- Caliper on the narrowest gap
- Accessory installed from front and side
- Contact marks after removal, if any
Label every photograph with the panel profile ID and date. An unlabelled close-up becomes difficult to trust when several similar samples are in the office.
Separate fit approval from load approval
A part can fit the slat while still being unsuitable for the intended shelf or object. Keep two statuses: fit confirmed and final configuration approved. The second status should include shelf depth, bracket spacing, load position, material and production orientation.
Use simple statuses that every team understands
Give each panel-to-accessory combination one visible status: not reviewed, measurement only, sample fit confirmed, final configuration approved or rejected. Record who changed the status, when it changed and what evidence was used. “Measurement only” is important because a drawing comparison can identify obvious mismatches without proving real-world installation performance.
Customer-service teams should quote the status exactly instead of translating it into a broad “universal fit” promise. Product pages can show the panel dimensions used for approval, while internal notes retain sample batch, test method and exceptions. If the status is rejected, keep the reason—such as insufficient gap, excessive clamp pressure or shelf rotation—so the same unsuitable combination is not tested again without a design change.
Connect the record to SKUs and packaging
Each sellable accessory should point to the compatible panel profile and approved revision. If two brackets look similar but fit different gaps, packaging and warehouse labels must make the difference obvious. Clear model control prevents picking errors and fit-related returns.
Review the record when something changes
Open a new revision when the panel supplier changes geometry, the accessory clamp changes, material changes or production settings affect fit. Do not silently replace an approved part. Retain the previous record so repeat-order questions can be traced to the version actually supplied.
Use the accessory RFQ template when requesting the first sample, and connect an approved record to the relevant shelf bracket selection page or product SKU. The public page helps buyers choose a product family; the controlled record remains the technical source of truth.
