Real panels are not mathematically identical

Wood, felt and assembly processes all introduce small dimensional variation. A clamp designed at exactly the nominal dimension can therefore behave differently from panel to panel.

Too tight creates its own problems

An overly tight accessory may be difficult to install, may mark the wood edge or may require excessive force. If the product depends on bending a stiff printed part beyond its intended range, repeated installation can also reduce durability.

Too loose can lead to movement

Extra clearance may make the accessory easier to install but allow rocking, rotation or downward slip. A secondary tightening mechanism can remove some free play, provided the contact surfaces are designed to distribute pressure.

Define a fit window

For production, it is more useful to state that a product is designed for a range than to state one exact dimension. The acceptable range should be validated on real samples from the panels the buyer expects to use.

Consider temperature and material behavior

Polymer parts can change stiffness with temperature, and wooden slats can vary slightly with environment. Indoor products generally see modest changes, but the design should not depend on an extremely narrow fit margin.

Tolerance is a design parameter, not a defect allowance. Planning it early usually makes the accessory easier to use and easier to manufacture consistently.
