Material choice is only one part of strength

PETG and PLA are both widely used for 3D-printed indoor accessories. A strong part also depends on wall thickness, internal ribs, layer orientation, corner radii and how the load is transferred into the clamp.

PLA

PLA prints accurately and can produce a clean, rigid part. It is suitable for many decorative and light-duty indoor applications. Its stiffness can be useful, but brittle geometry can crack if the design contains sharp stress concentrations or is repeatedly flexed.

PETG

PETG is generally tougher and more tolerant of impact and repeated flexing. It also offers better temperature resistance than standard PLA. Because PETG can flex more, a clamp may need additional thickness or ribs to maintain gripping force.

Clamp behavior matters

A spring-style clip may benefit from controlled flexibility, while a screw-tightened bracket may benefit from higher stiffness around the screw and jaw. The same material can perform differently depending on print direction.

Best practice for production

Choose the material after the use case is defined, then validate the final geometry with the intended load. A PETG label does not automatically make a weak design strong, and a well-designed PLA accessory can be adequate for light-duty use.
